Officer Friendly

The Officer Friendly program began in 2015 with the goal being to foster positive relationships between police officers and children.

The police departments that participate in Officer Friendly choose their own volunteer law enforcement officer or official representatives to visit our partner centers one time each month. The officer spends 30 minutes reading and talking about safety.

Is your classroom interested in having an Officer Friendly reader?
Please contact Erica Garris, Literacy Initiatives Coordinator.

Which books does Officer Friendly read?

There are 12 books chosen for the year, three each quarter that all focus on building a child’s self-esteem, literacy and social skills, and developing a positive relationship with police officers. Here are some of the books our Officers have read in previous visits.
