Hometown Hero Readers
The Hometown Hero Readers program began in 2015 with the goal being to foster positive relationships between first responder agencies and children.
The first responders who participate in Hometown Hero Readers choose their own volunteer officer or official representatives to visit our partner centers one time each month. The volunteer spends 30 minutes reading and talking about safety.
Is your classroom interested in having a Hometown Hero Reader?
Please contact Erica Garris, Literacy Initiatives Coordinator.
Which books do volunteers read?
There are 12 books chosen for the year, three each quarter that all focus on building a child’s self-esteem, literacy and social skills, and developing a positive relationship with first responder agencies. Here are some of the books our volunteers have read in previous visits.
