Volusia Storybook Village

A FREE family-friendly event that promotes the importance of reading to children as early and as often as possible.

Our top priority is to get kids excited about reading!

Additionally, we aim to raise funds for the Volusia County Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth to 5 years old. This program is entirely funded by local donations, grants, and fundraisers like this event. Bring your family and support a great cause while fostering a love for reading in your little ones!

Our theme at the 2024 Volusia County Storybook Village was Laura Numeroff, author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Story Time

Story time invited families to gather together for a fun, interactive reading of If You Give a Dog a Donut. 

Daytona Playhouse generously came out to our event to bring story time to life! Their talented readers used songs, colorful props, and animated voices to keep children engaged and encourage their participation.

Learning Through Play

Each book that we featured at Storybook Village came with a craft or activity. As families walked through the Storybook Village, they stopped at various tables to complete the craft or activity and receive a book.

Scavenger Hunt

Laura Numeroff’s books were brought to life with an exciting scavenger hunt. Lining the path were signs with helpful hints as to what to look for.

After collecting 10 items featured throughout the books, children received a copy of If You Give a Moose a Muffin.

Paws to Read

One new addition this year was Paws to Read, featuring Jett, the adorable Shih Tzu. One of the stops along Storybook Village invited children to sit and share a book with Jett. Can you guess which book was Jett’s favorite?

Photo Booth

To help families remember this fun event, we set up a photo booth complete with a cookie backdrop and props from Laura Numeroff’s books!

Children loved choosing a prop to pose with and the photos were all adorable!
