Volusia Storybook Village

Join us for a FREE family-friendly event that promotes the importance of reading to children as early and as often as possible.

Saturday, November 23rd 10am-1pm
Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens

Our top priority is to get kids excited about reading!

Additionally, we aim to raise funds for the Volusia County Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth to 5 years old. This program is entirely funded by local donations, grants, and fundraisers like this event. Bring your family and support a great cause while fostering a love for reading in your little ones!

Our theme this year is Laura Numeroff, author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Check out some photos and family fun activities from our first Storybook Village, which took place in October 2023 at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens. We loved celebrating children’s book author Eric Carle with local families!

Story Time

Story time invited families to gather together for a fun, interactive reading of several Eric Carle books.

Orlando Family Stage generously came out to our event to bring story time to life! Their talented readers used songs, colorful props, and animated voices to keep children engaged and encourage their participation.

Families loved cozying up to hear The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Learning Through Play

Each book that we featured at Storybook Village came with a craft or activity. As families walked through the Storybook Village, they stopped at various tables to complete the craft or activity and receive a book.

Scavenger Hunt

10 Little Rubber Ducks was brought to life with an exciting scavenger hunt. Families followed yellow duck feet along a path to collect 10 little rubber ducks. The path was also lined with colorful duck signs that prompted children to ‘quack like a duck’ or ‘flap your wings like a duck.’

Once children found all of their ducks, they received the 10 Little Rubber Ducks book!

Photo Booth

To help families remember this fun event, we set up a photo booth complete with a Very Hungry Caterpillar backdrop and props from all of Eric Carle’s books!

Children loved choosing a prop to pose with and the photos were all adorable!

Face Painting

It wouldn’t be a children’s event without face painting! To get in the spirit of Eric Carle, children could choose from a small selection of characters from Eric Carle’s books to have painted on their face.
