Grade-Level Reading

Did You Know?

The number of 3rd grade children reading at grade level in Flagler and Volusia Counties has declined.
In Flagler, the percentage reading at grade level dropped from 68% in 2019 to 59% in 2021.
Volusia dropped from 58% to 54% during that same period.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no testing was done and no data was available in 2020.

The percentage of five year olds ready for kindergarten in 2021 as measured by the Star Early Literacy assessment was 54% in Volusia County and 45% in Flagler County. That’s fewer kindergarteners ready than in 2019 or 2020.

This matches the statewide trend for the same period.
