Activities to Support Your Child’s Developing Sense of Self

Children between the ages of infant – school-age are discovering so much about the world around them. Another discovery they’re making is their sense of self. A person’s sense of self is what they believe or understand about who they are, their social connections, and their individual abilities.

Sense of self helps children to build self-esteem, confidence, and positive relationships with others.

Here are activities to help support your young child’s sense of self.

Infants and Toddlers: Mirror Play
Place a mirror where your child can see their reflection and help them discover their appearance.

Preschoolers: Pictures and Videos
Share with your child pictures of them with other family members to help them recognize themselves in relation to other members of the family.
